I am back! Before writing about the cities, lets talk about the journey first. I want to take you back to Vienna, the second airport on my journey to Florence, Italy. When I arrived, I was relieved and scared of the knowledge that soon I have to enter the plane again flying to Italy from Austrian airport. “Fear of flying” is one of fear where more than 50% of adult flight passengers ever experienced at least once. Unfortunately for me it keeps repeating every time I know I have to fly. There are many ways to reduce your fear, many websites and publications are dedicated to teach people on “How to deal with fear of flying?”. If you like there are numerous courses around us. I just can’t say if it will help you.
The latest incidents with Malaysian Airlines and the tragedy of German Wings Flight 9525 heightens flying anxiety in me. I tried many methods and some of them are just not working on me. Some of them backfired and bite me back on my butts. Not nice!
In this blog post, I want to share some methods to reduce my fear of flying. Th pictures was taken at the Vienna Airport during couple hours transit before I was flying to my final destination, Florence, Italy.
Here how to deal with fear of flying to much lower level, which works for me:
1. Feeling more secure is in your own hands.
I always booked my tickets and fly with airlines companies I trust. For extra comforting feelings, you can always check how the airlines company rated Internationally.
2. Bring the best things to distract you from yourself during the flight and during the transit time.
The best way to reduce the fear in your head is by thinking about other things. Make my self busy reading articles from my favorite fashion magazines is my favorite activity I did during my flights. Other thing is walking around the airports, shopping or if you a blogger it is ok to do a little photoshoot to show your airport outfit. What do you think about what I wore?
3. Drink water and only water.
Of course wine or bier will be great to have on your holiday trip, but when flying I prefer to drink only water. It cleansed and it is so refreshing. A cup of coffee is good in the morning but too much, usually it makes me to alert on everything and sometime it make me more vulnerable to anxiety. For me only water works good. Some wine and bier makes me so tired on arrival and feeling nausea during the journey. This water bottle is handy to take with you.
4. Get a seat on the wings area.
Always try to do online check-in so you can choose your own seat. First for me it’s just like still having a slight of control on your journey. Why I love to sit near or on the wings areas? Those seats are the most quite seats when there are some turbulences, it is also the strongest area on a plane. Bumpy journey will be not that bumpy anymore…
5. Always make sure that you have a window on your seat.
Why having a window and the ability to look outside help me to reduce my fear? Usually, fear of flying is a combination two phobias or more, for example: agoraphobia (an intense anxiety in public places where an escape might be difficult), claustrophobia (the fear of having no escape and being in closed or small spaces or rooms) and acrophobia (an extreme or irrational fear or phobia of heights, especially when one is not particularly high up). So having a window will give you a more space, it works for me. But if you are afraid to look outside the window, an aisle seat is also highly recommended, as it gives you the feeling of extra space.
6. Fly more often
Really, the more I travel on a plane (last year three times), the more easier for me to use all five steps above to reduce my fear of flying.
7. Chocolate bar
