I visited Phuket in May 2018 on an individual journey. I never realised that this island is the biggest island of Thailand which is bound to the mainland by the Sarasin Bridge. In Phuket, you will find two outmost type of area, the busy and chaotic but energetic areas and the places where tranquil is number one offer. My first solo travel in Phuket was for the Kamala beach region which is one of the zen providing areas. But I also had the chance to visit Patong beach on a day trip. This place is insanely full of nightclubs, street-food vendors, busy, vibrant beaches and the location for up all night tourists.
I stayed at the breathtaking Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort, located at 16/12 Moo 6 Tambon Kamala, Amphur Kathu Phuket. The Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort rooms are cascading down a hillside at the Kamala Bay. The resort is not far away from Patong. The breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea from the hotel room was unforgettable. Unique dining options and a large oceanfront pool. A place for lavish sea views and a scenic location. This place was a good one for a solo travel in Phuket.
“Have I eaten today?”—That might be the common question I had to myself every day. I love Thai’s cuisine. The aromatic and spiced up dishes are delightful. As with many other Asian countries, foods are an essential part of the human connection in Thailand. Coming from Indonesia, I know how foods can connect and bound people in such a good flow, like a universal language. Most of the food here, logically, is seafood. I left the resort I stayed in one day for a day walk around Patong.
As I head to Patong town, I found a street food-cart where people are gathering around eating what for me seems like noodles dish. I order meat mixed spiced noodles soup which is so delicious. The food-cart runs by a family, which that day, the father were in the kitchen, and his daughter is serving the foods. I walked around the Patong area which filled with shops, restaurants, bars, kickboxing arena and of course a mall for about three hours. During the walk, I also get myself fresh fruits juice on the street.
Just before back to the Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort in Kamala Beach, I stopped by the fresh traditional fish & fruits market to get my dinner. All you must choose and buy your fish and other ingredients in the market and bring it up to the second floor of the market where you can select the restaurant to get it to be prepared and cooked for you. They did the same way in Bali, Jimbaran fresh fish market.
During my solo travel in Phuket, mostly what I did is sleep, eat and relaxed in the resort. I will revisit Phuket for sure. But the next time will be more sightseeing and explore the island.
